Animals and plants differ in their demands on water parameters, tank size and tank mates. Please check the details in the tabs below before you buy. If you are unsure, just get in touch before ordering — we are happy to advise.
Indostomus paradoxus, also called the armoured stickleback or paradox fish, occurs from northern Myanmar to Cambodia and grows only three centimetres long. The body is elongated and heavily armoured yet very mobile; the back is covered by 21 bony shields with jagged ridges, and a lateral line is absent.
It lives close to the bottom in still waters and swamps, moves little and mostly rests on the substrate. As a rather slow feeder it eats mini worms and other small, bottom dwelling invertebrates; in a community tank it should be made sure it gets enough food. Sexually active males show clear dark stripes on the dorsal and anal fin.
