The forktail blue-eye (Pseudomugil furcatus) comes from the coastal plains and lowlands of Papua New Guinea and grows 4.5 to 6 cm. In the wild it prefers moderately flowing waters with lush underwater vegetation.
In the aquarium it is easy to keep and breed; a group of about 6 to 10 animals is recommended. With good feeding of frozen or live food, females lay a few eggs daily on plants or in the gravel. The fry hatch after 2 to 3 weeks and should be separated from the parents, which eat their young.
