The Amano shrimp grows to 5.5 to 6 cm and can live up to eight years. Its body is transparent with a fine row of dots along the flanks.
It reliably grazes hair algae and leftover food and is easy to watch during the day. It will not reproduce in freshwater, as the larvae need brackish water.
