Neritina Waigensis Rote Rennschnecke, Maori-Rennschnecke

Neritina waigiensis, also called the Maori racer snail, comes from the Indo-West Pacific (Philippines, Indonesia), where it lives in mangrove swamps as well as estuarine, brackish and freshwater zones. The animals are prettily patterned, often with red stripes; shell colour can vary and may change with different water values.

As it likes to wander in the shore zone, it should only be kept in covered aquariums. Being wild caught it is often weakened at first and only slowly gets used to artificial food, so the tank should be well covered in algae at the start. It should be kept in small groups and not combined with predatory snails, crabs, large clawed shrimp or snail eating fish.
