Apistogramma agassizi "Santarem red back" comes from Brazil. The animals offered here are German bred stock. They should be kept in pairs in a well planted aquarium; a small cave is readily accepted as a breeding cave.
The water should not be too hard, ideally with a pH between 6 and 7. Fed with live food such as cyclops or white mosquito larvae, breeding is quite achievable; the parents provide brood care, the young are usually still guided by the female and can be started on artemia.
