Gastromyzon ctenocephalus, the Borneo hillstream loach, originally comes from Borneo, where it lives in fast flowing, very clear and oxygen rich rivers with small waterfalls. Because of its fin structure it also needs a certain amount of current in the aquarium.
It is a calm fish that is not aggressive towards other fish; males form territories, which can lead to minor, mostly peaceful skirmishes. In the aquarium it often searches for algae and stays on the bottom, on the glass or among stones, where the females also lay their eggs. Plenty of decorative stones and an additional oxygen supply are therefore important.
