The ornate tetra (Hyphessobrycon bentosi) is a peaceful ornamental fish from South America, which impresses with its deep-bodied shape and subtle coloration. These specimens are captive-bred (CB), making them exceptionally well adapted to life in a home tank.
An aquarium with a minimum length of 80 cm is recommended for keeping this species. Dense planting around the edges alongside sufficient open swimming space create an ideal environment. Optimal water parameters include a temperature of 22 to 26 °C and a pH value between 5.0 and 7.5.
As a sociable shoaling fish, the ornate tetra should always be kept in a group to display its natural social behaviour. It can be easily kept alongside other peaceful aquarium inhabitants.
When it comes to diet, this species is straightforward. The ornate tetra willingly accepts standard dry foods such as flakes, granules, and tablets, which can be supplemented with a varied selection of high-quality frozen food.
