Paracheirodon axelrodi - Roter Neon DNZ

Paracheirodon axelrodi, the cardinal tetra, was first introduced in 1956 and is now bred in Europe and Southeast Asia. In its home range it lives mainly in blackwater with high acidity and nutrient poor sediments, where it only reaches about 2.5 cm; in the aquarium it reaches up to 5 cm and lives considerably longer.

With its glowing blue and blood red band running through the body, this peaceful schooling fish is a real eye-catcher. In the wild it prefers shaded, dark hideouts; dark substrate, dense planting and dimmed light suit it well in the aquarium. Breeding is considered demanding: the eggs are very light sensitive, so the breeding tank must be darkened and kept scrupulously clean.
